Four-sided art deco pitcher with gilt and enamelled desert scenes of initiation high jinks, and a jewel of the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine. The hand-painted scenes are signed by the artist, "Ruby Lacy." The bottom is marked "B & Company, France." Established in 1872, the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine required its members, "Nobles," to be 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Masons or Knights Templar in the York Rite. The jewel of the order is a crescent, made of claws of the Bengal tiger, united at the base in a gold setting, a sphinx on one side and a pyramid, urn, and star on the other. The crescent is shown suspended from a scimitar and with a star pendent between its curved ends. From: John D. Hamilton. "Material Culture of the American Freemasons." Lexington, Mass.: Scottish Rite Masonic Museum and Library, Inc., 1994, page 235.
